A RESIGNATION
FARMER ENTERS PROTEST. POWER BOARD AFFAIRS. “Kindly place before the Southland Provincial Executive my resignation as a member of the Woodlands branch of the Farmers’ Union as a protest against the support given by them with regard to the recent Power Board affairs concerning the consumption of power to the value of £l5 a year,” stated a letter received at the monthly meeting of the executive on Saturday, from Mr Arthur Batchelor, of Toa. “I am of the opinion that if put to the vote it would be defeated by a big majority of members and that at least we are entitled to a vote on the- matter. The executive has done good work in the past and there is still a lot ,to be worked out on behalf of the farming community, but 1 consider that the present is not the time for consideration of a further loan by the Power Board. They should endeavour to economise the same as the average farmer is now forced to do. I have always been a strong advocate for unionism, but I consider the above hits the small farmer the hardest, which I consider unfair, and also that we are all entitled to a say in the affair, hence my resignation.” Mr Batchelor was present at the invitation of the executive and after a discussion in committee withdrew his resignation indicating that he was satisfied with the explanation of the executive.
