BEER PIPE LINE

UNDER AMERICAN CITY.

DISCOVERY BY FEDERAL POLICE.

Vancouver, October 17.

At Newark (New Jersey) a beer pipe line a mile long under the city wae discovered by the Federal police. It was running from an old factory, in which they apprehended five men and appropriated 1,090,000 dollars’ worth of pure Canadian whisky. The haul included 500 barrels, each containing sixty gallons, and 100 cartons of three demijohns each. The whole was labelled with the name of a well-known ice cream manufacturer.

The Federal Police have- subpoenaed the city police chief to show cause why he allowed the construction of the pipe line. The police deny knowledge of it.
