GORE ANGLERS
SOCIETY’S ANNUAL REPORT. The following report will be presented to the annual meeting of the Gore district angling society to-night:—The past season was a most successful one from an angler’s point of view, all the district streams being well stocked and the fish in good condition. The ladder at the Mataura Falls, for which the club has been agitating for a number of years, at last has become an accomplished fact, and has provided the larger trout with ready access to the upper reaches of the Mataura River and its tributaries, and the thanks of the club are due to the Southland Acclimatization Society for bringing this matter to a successful conclusion. The balance now shows a small credit, and although thus is a considerable reduction from that in hand at the beginning of the year, expenses in connection with club functions have been somewhat heavy. During the year the club held two very successful field days, which were largely attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Five competitions were held in the past season, and on the whole the baskets weighed in were good, although the number of competitors was disappointing. The club again was represented in the quadrangular shield competition on the Mataura River, and was runner-up for the coverted trophy for the fourth time in succession. The Gore society tenders its congratulations to the Mataura club on its success in winning the competition. The commitee desires to thank all officers and members of the society, the donors of prizes, and the Southland Acclimatization Society for the support accorded to the Society during the year. The club now has 54 active and 52 honorary members, and it is hoping for an increased membership this season. There is no doubt that the Gore Angling Club fulfils an important function in keeping the requirements of local fishermen before the Southland Acclimatization Society and in generally doing its best to keep the local streams well stocked each year. Hence it is the duty of all local anglers to become active members of the club. From reports received the local streams apparently are well stocked and in good order, and consequently the prospects for the forthcoming season . are quite bright.
