THE GORE CLUB. PRIZES PRESENTED TO COMPETITION WINNERS. There was an excellent attendance of enthusiasts on the golf links at Gore on Wednesday afternoon when the final matches of the 1930 season were played. The afternoon proved a particularly enjoyable one, the weather being ideal for such an occasion, and players engaged in a fourball bogey match. At the conclusion of play an adjournment was made to the pavilion where the prizes were presented. The president, Mr R. Fisher, remarked that they had come to the end of the 1929-30 season. He was pleased indeed to note the excellent turn-out of members, and trusted that if they had not derived profit as the result of club matches they at least had derived some pleasure from the game. The committee had endeavoured to arrange competitions which, he hoped, had proved enjoyable; such competitions had been entered into with zest, and if the winners gained some pleasure in annexing the trophies the other competitors also had found pleasure in the game —for it was the.game that mattered. Referring to the new course on the hill, Mr Fisher said the club’s duty was not to pick faults with the links, but to get together and assist. Certain of the greens were now showing up, and although some places were damp the committee had arranged to drain plough such areas. He then presented the trophies won to the various winners, and complimented them on their performances. Subsequently an approaching and putting competition was engaged in.
