LOST TIME MADE UP
CAPTAIN MATTHEWS’ FLIGHT. ATTACK ON HINKLER’S RECORD. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 23. Captain Matthews, who is making an attempt in a de Havilland Puss Moth to beat Mr Bert Hinkler’s record of 15 J days from England to Australia, reached Karachi last night and left this morning on the next stage. Although delayed for 24 hours at Sofia by bad weather he has now made up the lost time, partly by a night flight from Baghdad to Jask, which he reached at 2 o’clock in the morning, starting again for Karachi two hours later. He is ahead of Hinkler’s time, but not of Miss Amy Johnson's for the distance so far covered. A message from Allahabad states that Captain Matthews arrived there on Tuesday' afternoon. He is leaving for Calcutta on Wednesday.
