AMERICAN PAINTS
USE BY RAILWAY DEPARTMENT.
MR JORDAN’S QUESTIONS.
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, September 19.
The reason why the Railway Department used American paints instead of British for carriage work at Addington and Otahuhu, was sought by Mr W. J. Jordan (L., Manukau) in the House of Representatives to-day.
During the railway estimates debate, Mt Jordan aaid that the stuff the Minister of Railways had put over about American being the only available paint for coating cars at Otahuhu, was not right. Long before that the Addington Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants had complained of the use of Pittsburg Co. paint. What was the influence behind this use of American paint ? What amount of money was spent on that paint?
Tho Minister undertook to' investigate the question which, he claimed, was technical.
