FITZROY MURDER
INQUEST FORMALLY OPENED. ADJOURNED TILL WEDNESDAY. (Per United Press Association.)
New Plymouth, September 17. The inquest on Cora Alice Townsend, a married woman, residing at Fitzroy, who was alleged to have been murdered by her husband, Alexander Townsend, on Tuesday morning, was formally opened this morning by Mr R. W. Tate, S.M., and adjourned till Wednesday next when a’ further adjournment will be sought so that the inquest and the lower Court proceedings ou the indictable charge may be heard together. It appears that the man arrested walked to Waitara carrying a loaded shotgun ou Tuesday morning and hired a taxi to go to the house of the factory manager at Oneroa, Mr F. Huse, where his sister-in-law, Mrs Huse, lived. Later, he drove on to Urenui. Mr Huse advised the Waitara constable, La Pouple, who reached the Oneroa house as the man returned there. The constable handcuffed the man, who resisted, but was brought to New Plymouth. The gun was in the car, but had been unloaded by the taxi-driver.
