OHAI NOTES

The Ohai senior football team played Orepuki at Ohai on Saturday on the recreation reserve, which was in a slippery state. A slight drizzle continued throughout the day from the night previous and helped to soften the surface. Ohai lost the toss and Orepuki decided to play with the sun at their backs. From a line out, McGregor secured the ball and passed to Ballock, who raced to the Orepuki line, near which he passed to L. Wilson, who scored. The kick at goal failed. Immediately after the visitors made a very vigorous attack, and when the ball was mulled by the Ohai players, they took advantage, which resulted in Purdue scoring, the kick failing. Ohai then attacked strongly and although repeated efforts were made to cross the line, no further scores were added up to half time. The play in the second half was of a very straggling nature and uninteresting. At one stage Taylor secured the ball for Ohai and got over the line, but the try was disallowed. Shortly after the ball was passed to J. Ferguson, who dribbled through and drop-kicked a goal. Orepuki then made a final effort, and Purdue was again unfortunate in failing to score when the ball went out over the line near the corner flag. The game terminated with the scores: Ohai 9, Orepuki 3. The most outstanding players for the visitors were Purdue, Nolar and White, and for Ohai McGregor, Ballock, Fordyce and J. Ferguson.
