FARMERS’ UNION. The monthly meeting of the Mataura branch of the . Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Girl Guide Rooms yesterday, Mrs. Udy presiding over a fair atteno'ance of members.
It was decided to fall in with and support the movement to have a rest room established at Gore.
It was/ also resolved that Dr. Anderson, School Medical Officer, be asked to deliver an address on the “Welfare of School Children” at a meeting of the division to be held on October 17,’ at which any of the town ladies will be welcome to attend. Court Returns.
The quarterly returns of the Mataura Magistrate’s Court for the period ended September 30 are as follows, the court sitting once every two months; Number of sittings presided over by Magistrate, Civil 1; criminal 1; presided over by Justices of the Peace, nil. The total amount sued for in civil cases was £495/4/4. During the quarter 27 plaints were' entered, two distress warrants issued, 13 judgment summonses issued, 49 summonses and other processes were served by the bailiffs within one mile, 17 outside one mile and three warrants were executed by bailiffs. Two criminal cases against males were dealt with, the civil fees totalled £2O 10/-, and’ fines paid amounted to £l, making a total of £2l 10/-.
