ANGLING
EASTERN DISTRICT RIVERS. All rivers in the Eastern District, with the exception of the Mataura, should be in excellent order for fly fishing during the week-end. The warm weather experienced during the past few days has had the effect of thawing the snow on the higher levels causing the Mataura to rise. At present it is high and discoloured and is only fit for worm fishing.
There is also a little snow water in the Pomahaka, but not sufficient to make it unfishable. If the wind continues the Waimea should be in ideal order and some good bags should be reported, as the fish in this stream are reported to be very plentiful. The Waipahi and Otameta are both in good order for the fly. Mr A. F. Henderson, Charlton, who fished the Mimihau on the opening day of the season, secured 22 nice fish for 3J hours fly fishing. These were practically all caught on the Twilight Beauty. Mr Henderson reports that the fish in this stream are plentiful and in good condition.
