FLOODS IN MEXICO

VAST AREA UNDER WATER

TONS OF BANANAS AFFECTED.

(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Mexico City, September 21

Nineteen thousand tons of bananas grown by or for American companies are under water in a vast flooded district covering the coast lands in the states of Vera Cruz, Chiapas and Canpechi. The Mexican railway is undermined in many places, and there are numerous mountain slides caused by torrential rain. Schools of sharks have gathered along the coast, waiting to feed on drowned cattle from the swelling rivers.—United Service.
