POWER BOARDS
THE SOUTHLAND. DISTRICT.
NON-RETICULATED RATEPAYERS
(Special to the Times.)
Wellington, July 23.
To-day, Mr D. McDougall (Mataura) gave notice to ask the Minister of Public Works whether it is the intention of the Government to give relief to non-reticulat-ed ratepayers in the Southland Power Board dist rict.
“There is a large number paying rates who have no hope of ever getting the power,” he said. “They consider it a hardship to' be paying rates and receiving no service from the board. If relieved of the rate, it would only mean tin additional rate of l-19d on the unimproved value in the reticulated areas.” Mr McDougall also gave notice to ask the Minister of Lands whether it is the intention of the Government to remit rents and interest postponed by the late Government in connection with soldier settlers. “Amounts of rent and interest were postponed by the. late Government for terms of five and seven years and are now falling due” he said.
