GIRLS’ HOTEL
DEFEATING HIGH COST OF LIVING. “A HOME AND FREEDOM.” Two thousand New York business girls, with average weekly salaries of £6, plan to defeat the hi"h cost of living here by constructing a fifteen-storey hotel, which they will manage and occupy. While the project is to be financed by a local bank, the girl tenants will be permitted to subscribe to certificate liens on the profits of the establishment in £2O units, and have a voice in the management. Each “home” in the hotel will consist of a living room, a dining room and kitchenette combined, a bath room, and a hall, for which a monthly rental averaging £2 10s will be charged. The services of a maid will be included. The plans for the operation of the hotel are sponsored by the New York league of Girls’ Clubs, whose members not only desire real homes at a moderate cost, but also the privilege of entertaining friends without the restrictions usually enforced in boarding-houses. Modern girls, according to a club official, make their own friends, and no restrictions will be placed upon their social lives.
