DETECTIVE’S FATE
TERRIBLE CRIME IN MELBOURNE. CHARRED BODY DISCOVERED. Melbourne, May 11. Believed to have been fiendishly murdered, the naked and charred body of Frederick Jeffery, a private detective, was found by the police under circumstances suggesting that he was the victim of a diabolical crime. Stripped of his clothes, Jeffery was lying with his head inside a gas stove, while the wires from an electric switch were connected to the body, the head and the upper part of the trunk being shockingly burnt.—Australian Press Association.
