GOLF LINKS TRAGEDY

BOY’S DEATH. (Per United Press Association.) Wairoa, May 9. Further particulars of the Tuai golf accident show that the deceased boy was struck by a golf club, not a ball, by Mrs McGarry, a powerfully built woman, who in making a drive, failed to notice the lad nearby and caught him behind the ear. The victim fell, saying: “It got me, dad,” expiring immediately. At the inquest the evidence showed that Mrs McGarrv borrowed a new golf club from a school boy passing and practised hitting. After several hits, she swung a midiron back, not knowing deceased was standing behind. The first she knew was Green exclaiming: “You’ve knocked me out.” He walked a couple of paces, gasped and sank to the ground, dying immediately. Deceased was hit on the carotid artery on the left side of the neck. A verdict of accidental death was returned no blame being attachable to Mrs McGarry with whom the coroner and jury expressed sympathy, also the parents.
