TUATAPERE NOTES

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Tuatapere, School Committee was held on Monday, Maj' 6. The following were present:—Mesdames R. Henderson, E. Ludke and McCulloch, and Messrs R. Muldrew (chair), Lion and C. J. Nicholas. The head-teacher, Mr G. E. Higgins was in attendance, and reported as follows:— The roll number stands at 138, the average roll for April being 138.25, the attendance 128.2, and 92.7 per cent, attendance. Mr Higgins also reported that the windows had not been attended to, nor the heating stove installed. The secretary was therefore instructed to get in touch with Mr J. Horrell immediately to do the work. It was decided to call tenders for the labour of erecting a fence to enclose the school. Regarding the matter of the boundary fence, it was resolved that the Education Board be approached to move in the matter with the owner of the adjoining property. On the opposite side of the school are two police sections (i acre) which are not likely to be ever utilized by the holder. The secretary was requested to write accordingly to the board asking if it is possible to have the sections transferred to school property. Seeing that a fair amount of expense will be incurred in completing the beautifying of the school grounds it was agreed that the Waiau Welfare Society be asked, to help in the way of raising funds for same. Some time ago the board advised the committee that it was going on with the calling of tenders for the conveyance of the Alton school children, but nothing so far has been noticed in this connection. As the winter season has now well started, it was decided that thte secretary write to the board stating that it is now time a start was made.
