SHEEP DOG TRIALS

WINTON MEETING CONCLUDES. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The third annual trials of the Winton Sheep Dog Trials Chib was concluded at The Bend yesterday. Although the weather was not favourable, the attendance was very large and the meeting should prove to ba one of the most successful yet held as far as finance was concerned. Larger entries than have.previously been received resulted in a higher standard of work obtaining and the two days sports were most interesting. The judge was very pleased at the general standard of the work and considered that the trials, augured well for the future of the club. * At the conclusion of the events, the president (Mr F. Moore) presented the prizes and congratulated the winners. He expressed the appreciation of the chib to the competitors and winners. On the first evening of the trials a very successful smoke concert was held at Winton presided over by Mr F. Moore (president). A lengthy toast list was honoured interspersed with musical items. Messrs F. Tilley, George Lindsay, O. Jamieson and G. Cowie contributed to the programme. Following arc the remaining results: LONG PULL. Open to all comers. Heading, pulling, holding in ring and yarding. Distance about 600 yards; time ten minutes. First priYe £6 and cup valued at £5 5/- presented by Mrs Olive to be won two years in succession or three at intervals, second £3, third £l. Previous winners: 1927, T. Reidy, Five Rivers; 1928, J. Anderson, Kauana. Possible points 42 (heading 10, pulling 12, command 8, holding in ring 4, style 4, yarding 4).
