DREDGE EXPLOSION

CORONIAL INQUIRY CONCLUDED.

Wanganui, April 22.

The inquiry into the dredge Kaione explosion and the deaths of Duncan McKinnon and Joseph Cable were concluded to-day before Mr J. H. Salmon. S.M., The Coroner returned a verdict that Cable died as the result of an explosion in the tunnel of the Kaione, the cause of death being a fracture of the base of the skull, a broken neck and other injuries. The Coroner said he was unable, on the evidence, to say what gases were responsible for the explosion. Hr also found that McKinnon died from suffocation resulting from burns sustained in the explosion.
