POPPY DAY

THE GORE APPEAL. A GENEROUS RESPONSE. The Poppy Day appeal at Gore on Saturday met with a very generous response, and those responsible for the sale of poppies found no difficulty in disposing of all they had on hand. The Boy Scouts also assisted by making a house to house canvass and they, too, disposed of all they had. It is estimated that the total amount realized will be approximately £lOB, and thanks are due to the energetic committee of ladies who organized and carried out the sale. The following figures show l the sales of poppies .in the various areas and the amounts realized: — Business area and street sales: Mcsdames F. S. Graham, W. McAra, A. P. Staples, Misses R. Aitken, E. Hamilton, I. Finlayson, I. Graham, Scouts F. H. Hutton, A. Weir and Hawk, £56 12/-.

North Ward: Misses T. Scott, A. -Tutty, E. Murdoch, D. Stark, M. Knight, N. McKitterick, Scouts A. Weir, A. Earl, W. Middleditch, D. McDougall, J. Browning, J. Neilson, and J. Fitzgerald, £l5 3/-.

South Ward: Misses D. Gresham, M. Allison, Scouts D. Staples, R. Rodger, E. McKenzie, R. Campbell and Mr W. D. Shelton, £l4 19/4. East Ward: Miss L. Hoffman and Scouts J. Knowles, J. Little and C. Tutty, £6 IS/-. West Ward: Scouts D. Williamson, G. Davidson and G. Moyle, £4 13/-. McNab and Whiterig: Misses J. Steele and T. Ladbrook £3 2/-. Returns have still to come in from the local schools and Riversdale, Mataura, Tapanui and Waikaka.
