MAY FAIR

.APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE.

The chairman of the May Fair Committee, Mr W. Stevenson, addresses the following appeal to the people of Southland: Once again Southland’s great May rair is near at hand. Its previous successes are still fresh in the memories of thousands of delighted Southlanders, and our fame has gone far throughout the Dominion. Southland is steadily advancing in Dominion appreciation as the greatest province in New Zealand. We must keep abreast of public esteem and what we do, we must do well, for we have already achieved great things and must go on advancing. One of the outstanding features we require, for the 1929 May Fair, is a grand display of our ability to produce —a mighty marshalling of what our Southland is, and what we can do. Minerals, primary products of all kinds, by-products, timber, sport, manufactures and specialties in one huge assemblage such as has not yet been seen in the south. AH of these, both great and small, which we possess, cannot be surpassed anywhere. A comprehensive and impressive parade of such would form one of the finest advertisements ever staged in Invercargill. We con do it beyond the shadow of a doubt. Let us make a special effort in which all, are actuated by a love of and a respect for Southland, co-operating for a result that wiU be broadcasted throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand —achieving a provincial superiorit” not yet attained by any other part of our incomparable country. Fellow citizens of Southland, let us all combine for a mighty achievement, and prove worthy of the magnificent heritage that is ours, as the result of the untiring and noble work of those pioneers who laid the foundations of Southland, and of our splendid town of Invercargill. We can do it, and let us not lag in the nations march of progress but let us be out for a colossal success—big, bright and happy.
