WAIKAKA NOTES

On Wednesday of last week the harvest home ball was held in the Waikaka Hall, A char-a-banc and many cars brought a large crowd from Gore, and the young people of the district attended in large numbers. At times the floor was too crowded for dancing. Wallis’s Orchestra (Gore) supplied the music. The duties of M.C. were ably carried on by Messrs Rankin, Kelly and Corcoran. On Friday evening the friends of Miss J. Nicholson gathered at the residence of Mr R. Burns for the purpose of giving her a gift evening on the occasion of her approaching marriage. A very enjoyable time was spent in games and music. Miss Nicholson was the recipient of many useful gifts, including a handsome afternoon teaset from the residents of North Chatton. While harvesting in the district last week, Mr D. Kerr had the misfortune to break his leg and is now. an inmate of the Gore Hospital. Miss C. Corcoran is spending a short holiday in Invercargill.

Mr Bishop, of Hawkes Bay, has been appointed sole teacher of the Greenvale School.

Mr and Mrs J. Darling (Balclutha) spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs H. Rankin. Miss Elsie Green is at present spending a holiday with her parents. Mr Talbot (Ohai) has returned home after spending a holiday in Waikaka. Miss Keating is at present spending a holiday at Ohai.
