OTAUTAU NOTES

HOCKEY BALL. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual ball, held under the auspices of the Hockey Club in the. hall on Friday evening, was a great success, there being a large attendance from all parts of the district. The building was gaily decorated with streamers (black and gold, the club’s colours), and the floor was in good order. Excellent, music was provided by the Gaiety Band of four instruments, and Mr B. Norman efficiently carried out the duties of M.C. The funds of the club will benefit to the extent of about £8 as a result of the function. School Committee. The monthly meeting in the school on Monday evening was attended by Messrs G. Sinclair (chairman), R. Buchanan (secretary), J. Scatter, G. H. Bone, W. B. Rowan, A. A. Liddell and If. Laing. The secretary, Moth Basket-ball Club, asked permission to use the school court on Wednesday afternoon.—Granted. Headmaster's Report. The headmaster (Mr Theo 11. A. Walker) reported that the roll number now stood at 217, and the average attendance for the month was 206. The average attendance from the beginning of the school year up to the present worked out at 203. Since his last report Mr Crane had taken up his duties |as third assistant on the staff. Mr Cox [ would finish up on April 30, but so far a i permanent successor had not been appointed. Mr Cox had proved himself a very capable assistant, and he regretted his departure from the school. The staff and himself wished him every success in his new position.—Adopted. In forwarding his resignation as first assistant, owing to his being appointed headmaster of the IVaimahaka school, Mr R. A. Cox thanked the members of the committee for the interest they had taken in his work. In moving that the resignation be received with regret, the chairman said that they were sorry to lose Mr Cox, as he had been an energetic assistant and a good teacher, who had done his best to help the boys in sport, and the outside activities of the school. The success of the last school concert was largely due to his organization. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Scatter and carried.—lt was also resolved to record a minute of appreciation of the good work he had done in the school, and wishing him every success in his new position. As this was the last meeting of the committee the chairman thanked the members for their co-operation and the manner in which they had carried out their duties during the year. Football.
