EX-PUPILS’ ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING,
The annual meeting of the Gore High School Ex-Pupils’ -Association was held last evening. The president (Mr J. Hunter, M.A.) presided over a fair attendance. In moving the adoption of the annual report (already published) the chairman mentioned that it was the first year for a considerable time that the association had been able to declare a credit balance. This was largely due to the success of the annual re-union and not to the subscriptions of members which might still be greatly augmented if ex-pupils rallied round the association. Reference had been made to the annual report and to the possibility of the association assisting in the procuring of an assembly hall. Apart from the need of such a hall it would be of great benefit to the ex-pupils’ association as it would enable it to do its own catering and to meet more frequently. He believed that if the expupils met more regularly in a social way its membership would be increased twentyfold. Representations had been made to the Minister of Education for a hall and he had recognized the claim as a just one. In the event of the Department erecting the hall the association could consider helping towards furnishing it. In conclusion he thanked the association for its generosity in donating medals to the school prize fund. The motion was seconded and carried.
The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr J. Hunter; vice-presidents, Messrs R. Domigan, W. Gee, members of the Board of Governors and the school staff; secretary, Miss R. Douglas; treasurer, Miss Q. Chatterton; committee, Misses L. Sim, M. L. Smith, M. Waddell, F. Hinchey, E. Hinchey, Messrs D. Pringle, A. Dickie, C. Campbell, W. Chatterton and W. Irishman; convenors of social committee, Misses D. Faitt and J. Muir. It, was decided to hold the annual reunion banquet between the dates of May 30 and June 17. It, was also moved as a recommendation to the committee that the annual dance be held as a separate function at a later date.
