POPULAR MUSICIAN

SOCIAL TO BE TENDERED. During the 12 years in which he has been at Gore, Mr Inglis W. Todd, L.T.C.L., L. has ever been ready to help at all concerts, socials and other gatherings. As a solo violinist or pianist he has freely given of his talent when asked, but it is, perhaps, in relation to his orchestral work that Mr Todd is best known to a wide circle of town and country friends. In his capacity as conductor of the Gore Orchestral Society he has done much to raise the standard of music at Gore, and to inculcate in the public a taste for the higher gems of music from the classics. Mr Todd is the type of citizen any town can ill-afford to lose but he is soon to leave Gore to take- up teaching at Timaru and he will certainly be an acquisition to the northern town. Remembering Mr Todd’s lengthy service to the community, a well attended meeting of ladies and gentlemen on Monday evening decided to tender to him a farewell social on Friday evening. Mr E. C. Smith presided. It was decided to canvass the district for subscriptions and the following collectors were appointed: Messrs E. R. Smith, N. Robertson, E. C. Smith and W. D. Shelton (Gore), Misses Duncan and Breen (Mataura), Miss Corcoran (Waikaka) and Mr M. Roche (Mandeville).

Any person desirous of subscribing is requested to do so through any of the collectors, as owing to the limited time they may not be able to get round. Misses M. Johnston, M. Inder and Mr G. F. Mirams were deputed to arrange the programme for the social.
