MORTGAGES AND FEES.
To the Editor. Sir, —I have read Mr A. A. Currie’s reply to my letter of the 6th instant in your issue of the Sth. Apparently Mr Currie is not prepared to accept my assurances that no procuration fee was charged by me. My solicitors inform me that the £3OOO was paid to Messrs Currie Bros., mercantile agents in Invercargill, and that no deduction was made for procuration fees or otherwise. If necessary 1 can get a certificate from them to this effect. If any amount of £3O or otherwise was deducted then this was done without my knowledge or consent. I can hardly believe that Mr J. T. F. Mitchell made the statement which Mr A. A. Currie says he made, but if Mr J. T. F. Mitchell did make this statement to Mr Currie then all I can say is that Mr Mitchell stated what was untrue. I feel sure that when Mr Currie gets a reply to his communication to Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. then he will give me the apology which he undertakes to give.—l am, dtc., F. J. DYER.
