ABOUT PEOPLE

Mr J. F. Cooper, Gap Road, left during the week for Milford Sound. Mr. Thomas Taylor, Arwick street, left Gore on Thursday for Christchurch. Bishop Richards arrived in Invercargill by the express from Dunedin yesterday. Constable PotU, of the Dunedin Police Force, has received notice of his transfer to Bluff. Mr. F. R. Petrie returned to Invercargill last evening after a short business visit to Queenstown. Mr Farrant, at present master of Gummies Bush School, has been appointed to Wyndham District High School staff, in succession to Mr A. N. Macdonald. Miss Dillon, a member of the staff of Wyndham District High School for the past three years, has been appointed infant mistress of Solway School, near Masterton, as from December 1. Mr. V. E. Sanders, of the Dannevirke Power Board staff, has been appointed to the position of secretary to the Poverty Bay Power Board. The number of applicants totalled 119 from all parts of the Dominion.—Press Association message. There were many people amongst the large audience at Mr Sutherland’s dance recital last evening, who recalled pleasant memories of Miss Doreen McClatchy, now Mrs Hunter, of Dunedin, who, after ten years away from Invercargill, made her re-appearance on the Invercargill stage. As a little girl, born and bred in Invercargill, Miss McClatchy was for many years Mr. Sutherland’s “star” pupil, eventually winning the New Zealand championship for Highland dancing. After leaving Invercargill with her family, she entered vaudeville under the name of Doreen Dore, appearing with Fuller’s and other touring companies throughout New Zealand. Five years ago she was married, and since that time until last night she had never been on any stage. Her visit to Invercargill was partly to see old friends, partly at the insistence of her former teacher. She is accompanied by her mother, her young sister, and her son Glenn, now four years old.
