MATAURA NOTES
ODDFELLOWSHIP. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Mataura Falls Lodge, No. 7616, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held on Thursday, a good attendance of members being present. Routine business was transacted, one member was proposed, and then a gramophone recital was given by P.G. Bro. F. F. Whiteley, which was much enjoyed. The Juvenile Lodge, under the able direction of Bro. McCaughan, N.G., held its meeting and received a visit from the adult lodge, which was much appreciated by the boys. Southland A. and P. Association. A meeting convened by the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Mataura on Thursday. The meeting was called in view of the monster princess carnival embracing the various districts in the province, and was well attended by the citizens of Mataura and district farmers. Mr A. L. Adamson, secretary, was present and outlined the scheme. The association had urgent need of increasing its funds, and it had been agreed that a carnival be held. Southland had been divided into three districts—-Eastern, Western and Invercargill—and princesses representing each district had already been appointed. The aim of the carnival was to raise £5OOO, and Miss R. Clark (Woodlands) would be the Eastern District princess. The following committee was appointed: Messrs A. M. Robertson, T. Major, W. L. Scott, D. Udy, F. W. Hamill, W. Johnston, R. Hutton, C. D. McConnell, Mesdames Major and Johnston and Miss Bowmar. Mr R. Hutton was elected chairman. It was resolved that every effort be made to assist the association in its campaign, and as a preliminary step the committee decided to hold a concert and dance at an early data
