OIL FROM WHALES

WEST AUSTRALIAN GROUNDS. SUCCESSFUL EXPEDITION. Cape Town, October 31. Four Norwegian whalers have returned from the West Australian grounds. Captain Olsen, who has had long experience in the Antarctic, said he had never before done so well. Twenty whales were sometimes caught in one day. They were smaller but fatter than the Antarctic whales, and the take produced 36,000 barrels of oil valued at £lBO,OOO. Owing to the hazardous landing at Point Cloates the sailors had not left the ships for three years. After a cruise in the South Atlantic Captain Olsen will return in May to Australia.—Australian Press Association.
