FIRES
OUTBREAK AT CHRISTCHURCH. DAMAGE OF OVER £lOOO. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, October 16. A fire in the premises of Wallace Wade Co., Ltd., Manchester street auctioneers, tonight did damage to the extent of over £lOOO. The fire commenced in a lean-to at the side and rear of the building and spread quickly to the walls and roof but did not do any damage to the main building part of which is sub-let to various tenants. The rear portion of the auction hall will have to be re-built. The building is owned by Mr P. 8. Nicholls and the whole of the ground floor is leased to the Wallace Wade Company. Stock in the auction rooms including seven pianos was considerably damaged by smoke and water. All the loss is covered by insurance with the Alliance office.
