GOVERNOR OF MADRAS

PRESENT TENURE EXTENDED. Rugby, October 15. With his Majesty’s approval the secretary of State for India has invited Viscount Goschen, who will complete his five years’ tenure of the Governorship of Madras on April 13 next, to continue to serve in India till the autumn of 1929. Viscount Goschen has consented to do so.—British Official Wireless. VICEROY MAY VISIT ENGLAND. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, October 15. The Daily Express understands that there is a probability of Lord Irwin, Viceroy of India, visiting England next summer to consult the British Cabinet regarding Indian difficulties. The re-appointment of Viscount Goschen for an additional year’s governorship of Madras strengthens the conjecture because he would act in Lord Irwin’s absence.—Australian Press Association.
