OBITUARY
MR THOMAS ALEXANDER. An old resident of Woodlands in the person of Mr. Thomas Alexander, passed away at his residence, 74 Deveron street, on Tuesday after a short illness, the news of his sudden demise coming as a shock to his many friends in town and country. Mr. Alexander, son of the late Rev. T. Alexander, the first minister of the Woodlands Presbyterian Church, was born at Woodlands in 1871. He received his education at Woodlands and later took up farming in that district, leaving there 18 months ago to reside in Invercargill. The late Mr Alexander was a prominent member of the Farmers’ Union for a considerable number of years and was choirmaster at the Woodlands Presbyterian Church for some time. Being very interested in r; ort, Mr Alexander up to the time of his death, occupied the position of president of the Southland Coursing Club. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to his widow and family who number seven: Mrs M. Peters, Woodlands; Mrs N. Mills. Mataura Island; Mrs E. Moffat, Balclutha, and Minnie, Alice, Roy and James.
