SMELTING INDUSTRY
44-HQUR WEEK REFUSED. Adelaide, July 13. The president of the State Industrial Court, Dr. Hewitson, has refused the amalgamated engineers’ 44 hour week claim for the smelting industry at Port Pirie. He declared that the public interest at present lay in the expansion „of production and services of public utility. The first need of labour was opportunity for employment. The first duty of the community was to apply all resources, intellectual and material to ensuring that opportunity.—Australian Press Association.
