HEENEY-TUNNEY FIGHT

NEW ZEALANDER FAVOURED. POINTS DECISION PREDICTED. New York, July 13. The well-known sports writer, Mr C. Macauliffe, the undefeated lightweight champion, predicts a victory for Tom Heeney, the New Zealand boxer, in his bout with Gene Tunney (U.S.A.), heavyweight champion of the tforld, on July 26. He says Heeney has more endurance than Tunney and will wear him down and win the decision at the end of 15 rounds. “I don’t think Heeney has the necessary punch to knock out Tunney, but he is apt to maul the champion pretty badly. At any rate the last five rounds of the coming bout will tell more on Tunney than on a regular fellow like Heeney, who is used to going a full 20.” Australian Press Association. HEENEY WRITES TO TUNNEY. “HOOKING YOU WITH LEFTS.” (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, July 14 News from Fairhaven says that comment ascribed to Tunney to the effect tha. ' a allocation of seats for the champion’s friends is faulty and further that Heeney expects to have only three friends present caused the New Zealander to dictate a caustic letter to t,he champion in which he declared: “It may interest you that I have already arranged for more than 200 tickets for my friends, but they are not particular where they sit. All they want is a good view of me hooking you with lefts and sending your head back with uppercuts. I have always drawn good audiences and earned the right for a try at your title because I am always consistent.” Heeney was pleased when informed that the advance sales of tickets are now close on 500,000 dollars. —Australian Press Association.
