AMERICAN PRESIDENCY MILITANT DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN GOVERNOR SMITH’S CHOICE (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 7.5 p.m.) New York, July 12. With the selection of Mr Raskob as chairman of the Democratic Committee, Governor Smith is seen to take the policies of party definitely into his own hands. Mr Raskob was chosen in the face of much opposition since he is a Catholic and the most militant individual in the association against Prohibition. Moreover, the appointment eeems to be a frank bid for the support of organized business. In keeping with this policy Mr Herman Lehman, a prominent Wall Street banker, has been selected chairman of the Democratic Finance Committee. Mr Raskob is expected to appoint Mr Owen Young, who is chairman of the board of directors of the General Electric Company, as a member of the National Committee’s Advisory Board.—Australian Press Association. THIRD CANDIDATE NOMINATED. (Rec. 10.55 p.m.) New York, July 12. A third party—the Farmer-Labour-Pro-hibition Party- has, according to a message from Chicago, nominated Senator George Norris, of Nebraska, as a Presidential candidate—Australian Press Association—United Service.
