CRACK MARKSMEN AT BISLEY. FIRST STAGE OF KING’S PRIZE. London, July 11. There are 950 competitors in the first stage of the King’s Prize. An innovation was made whereby the shooting began at the 600 yards range, then at the 500 and finished at the 200. The leading 300 competitors will participate in the silver medal stage on Friday, the final 100 will shoot off on Saturday. The leading scores are as follows: Lieutenant Burke (Canada!, 33, 35, 34. Total 102.—Won the Bronze Medal. Lieutenant Cullen 32, 34, 35. —Total 101. Captain Smith 34, 32, 35.—Total 101. Ray (Australia! 32, 34, 34.—Total 100. Gore (Australia) 33, 32, 35.—Total 100. Four others had totals of 100. Burke won the Gold Medal in 1924. Other Gold Medallists competing include Sergeant Lawrence, who won in 1882. When the shooting began the conditions were fairly good with bright light and a steady wind. The sun was warm, but in the afternoon the heat was terrific, with no wind. Most of the competitors found the conditions distressing. In the Bisley and King's Prize match, Gore. Harrison. Nelson. Pavey, Quirk, Ray, Robinson, Nutt, also Green, with scores of 34, 33, 30 making a total of 97, qualified for the second stage. Bleech, More, Blurton and Mutton were among the 104 competitors with an aggregate of 93 who will shoot off for the last two places.
