SOCIETY CLUB DANCE. BANDITS GET £40,000. Indianapolis, June 4. Taking advantage of the presence of wealthy visitors to the Automobile Derby, ten armed bandits intercepted a midnight dance, and held up 200 guests. The dance was in progress at the fashionable Broadmoor Country Club. The bandits escaped with £40,000 in money and jewels.
They locked the manager in his office and then entered the ballroom, They threw aside their coats, displaying sawed-off guns and pistols. The leader advanced to the centre of the room firing shots at the floor and ceiling. The guests were forced to the walls, by his cursing pals, who commanded all present to throw their money and jewellery into sacks. "If you squeak, we will kill you,” they threatened.
Half an hour later the bandit*, who are believed to have come from Chicago, had disappeared in two high powered cars.—Sun Special.
