SAILOR’S FRAUDS

DESERTS FROM SHIP CAREER OF CRIME CHECKED SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 27. Angus Mac Neill, a sailor, aged 30, appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day for charges involving fraud and theft. The total amount involved in money and the value of goods was £23 15/-. Mac Neill deserted from his ship from Lyttelton, stole a bicycle and obtained credit at stores and hotels by means of letters purporting to show that he had money in the bank. Eventually his career of crimte ceased when he was arrested for drunkenness at Rakaia. On one charge Mac Neill was sentenced to four months’ gaol and on the other charges was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years.
