ATTACK ON TRADES COUNCIL. IMPRECATORY INTERJECTIONS. Melbourne, June 18. A large meeting of Labourites at the Gaiety Theatre was listening to strike aftermath speeches by the Trades Union Council officials, W. Duggan and G. Crofts, when lively interjections were hurled, blaming the Trades Council, namely, “You sold us,” “Traitors,” “Squibs,” “Frauds,” “Scabs,” and similar pleasantries. Duggan declared that the outcome of the strike had been ignominous defeat, but Crofts contended that the cooks had lost little, if anything.— Australian Press Association. REFITTING IDLE SHIPS. (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) Sydney, June 18. The marine cooks continue to return to work and the owners are busy refitting the idle ships. It is anticipated that within a couple of weeks all vessels will be recommissioned and normal services resumed. —Australian Press Association. VOLUNTEERS PAID OFF. (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) Melbourne, June 18. A meeting of shipowners decided to pay off volunteer crews, compensating them by the payment of one month’s pay in addition to payment for services given.—Australian Press Association.
