WINTER SHOW. A meeting of the Winter Show Committee was held on Friday evening when Mr R. Buchanan (president) occupied the chair. The chairman reported on the visit of the sub-committee to Invercargill and that .the trustees of the Reginald Mackinnon Trust had renewed their annual trophies to the show. The secretary reported that satisfactory entries had been received in the poultry classes. Arrangements were made for door-keepers, nheep-guessing, competitions, erection of stalls, and cartage of exhibits to and from the trains. It was left in the hands of the president to procure a sheep for the guessing compel i tion. The secretary reported that Mr Adam Hamilton had consented to open the show, and that all the judges had accepted their position. GOLF.

There was an attendance of 20 members at the official opening of the Otautau Club. The president, Mr Moore, stated he was pleased to see that so many had braved the elements. The committee had gone to conciderable trouble at short notice to prepare the greens on the new links. Players would find them a little rough in the mean time, but it was hoped to improve them as the season advanced. Owing to Mr Barwell granting the club the use of his property a nine-hole course had been laid out, which offered natural golfing difficulties which would test the playing abilities of the members. The green appointments, indication posts, distance signs, bridges, and stiles had been substantially erected, and should prove an asset to the club. He trusted that all members would take advantage of the links, and thoroughly enjoy the games during the season. Mr Moore then called ui>on the captain to place the ball for Mrs Moore to drive off, and officially declared the links open for play. The ladies dispensed a dainty afternoon tea, and a mixed foursome was played. MASK BALL.
