COOK AND HAWAII

COMING CELEBRATIONS Honolulu, March 14 The Prince of Wales will be invited to attend the Captain Cook sesqui-centenary celebrations in Hawaii in August next. The Governor of the Territory has asked the Cabinet at Washington to send a special invitation to His Royal Highness. The celebration is to be held on three of the islands, with native pageant and ceremonial depicting the landing of Captain Cook and his reception by the natives at Warinea, Island of Kauai, in 1778. On the Island of Hawaii at Kealckakua Bay, a tablet marking the spot where the intrepid navigator was killed, will be dedicated. Native feasts, pageants, and receptions will be held in Honolulu, and excursions will be made to Kilauea and other points of historic interest. lhe sesqui-centennial Commission hopes a squadron of British warships and a unit of the Australian and New Zealand fleets will represent the British Empire, and is inviting descendants of Captain Cook and Lord Sandwich to attend during the week commencing 15th August.
