CARD CLUB. (From Our Correspondent.) The weekly meeting of the Mataura Card Club was held in the Coronation Hall on Monday, there being a good attendance of members and friends. Progressive euchre was the order of the evening and play was very keen, some 17 games being played. At the conclusion of play the winner of the ladies’ first prize was Miss N. Taylor, while Mr McGillivray claimed the gentlemen's first prize. Consolation prizes went to Mrs A. J. Grant and Miss A. Varcoe. Mr H. Wilcox had charge of the tables and also presented the prizes. Supper was afterwards handed round and a very enjoyable evening terminated at 11 p.m. TOWN BAND. A meeting of the committee of the Mataura Town Band was held in the bandroom on Monday, and attended by Messrs J. H. Clark (president), A. J. Grant (secretary), J. F. Heslin, T. Gaudion, R. Hutton, W. Duncan, R. McQuillan, J. Russell. ApoloJ. Ingram. The band is in need of funds to enable it to meet its commitments and a discussion took place on the best means of raising funds for this purpose. Several suggestions were put forward, and it was eventually decided on the motion of Messrs W. Duncan and J. F. Heslin to conduct a weekly skating rink during the winter months providing skates are procurable. The matter of making inquiries about skates was left in the hands of Mr W. Duncan. It was also decided to push the sale of honorary members’ tickets at a nominal sum, and other detail business was transFOOTBALL CLUB BALL. The annual ball of the Mataura Football Club will be held in the Horticultural Hall on Friday night, when it is expected there will be a large attendance from all parts of the district. Arrangements are all complete for a successful function, a special orchestra having been engaged.
