OTAMA SOCIAL

SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT. The annual social and prize-giving of the local Sunday School was held in the church on Wednesday evening, when, despite the cold, a large crowd assembled. The Rev. D. H. Hay presided, and proceedings opened with the 100th Psalm. The programme, which was practically all given by the children, was one of rare quality, and in this connection special praise is due to Mrs Byars and Missei Annie Byars, Chrissie Jaffray and Mary Jaffray for the time spent in training the children. Other items during the evening were rendered by Miss A. Byars, Mrs W. G. Mac Kay and Mr D. McPherson. Mr J. McK. Miller, of Gore, was the speaker for the evening, and in a most interesting and helpful address, he held the attention of the children throughout. Before the supper was handed round, the Rev. D. H. Hay distributed the prizes. Each scholar received a book, and judging by the clatter and happy faces of the children after the prize-giving ceremony, one could easily see the prizes were much appreciated. Mr R. L. Byars, superintendent of the Sunday School, gave a brief review of the work carried out during the past year. He mentioned that the junior class was much too large and expressed the hope that another young lady would come forward and relieve the present teacher of some of her responsibilities. On behalf of himself and the other teachers, he thanked all for their co-operation. At the close of the programme Messrs W. G. Mac Kay and D. Bruce moved comprehensive votes of thanks to all who had assisted to make the social such a success.
