SCOTTISH SOCIETY

ENJOYABLE CONCERT AND LECTURE. The monthly meeting of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society was held in Stobo Hall last evening, when an enjoyable programme of Scottish items was presented before a good attendance. The Chief, Mr J. L. McG. Watson, was in the chair. The Rev. A. Mcßean gave an address on “Scotch Mixtures.” Referring to the large number of men of influence and leadership born and trained in Scotland, he said that in proportion to its size there were far more than in any other nation. This was partly explained by the fact that conditions in Scotland had never been easy. Difficulties overcome tended to strengthen character and develop talent. Various phases of Scottish character were illustrated by appropriate stories, mostly of a humorous nature. Special reference was made to the influence of Scottish preachers, theologians and missionaries. At the close of the address thanks were passed to the lecturer and performers. During the evening items were given by Piper Sutherland, Mr Pryde, Miss Strathern, Miss Cunliffe and Miss McLeay.
