SUCCESSFUL YEAR

COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ ASSO CIATION. The annual meeting of the Southland Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association was held last evening, Mr. A. Springford (president) presiding over a good attendance. The annual report stated: “The membership of the association now stands at 123, as compared with 99 at the beginning of the year. The year’s operations closed with an excess of income over expenditure of £44 2s 9d. Tournaments for billiards and snooker were held during the year and proved very successful. The results were as follows:—Catto Cup, Snooker Tournament—Winner, Mr. J. Grenville; runner-up, Mr. W. R. Oughton. D.C.L. Cup. Club Handicap. Billiards—Winner, Mr. R. Stewart; runner-up, Mr. L. Smith. Thomson Cup, A grade Billiards—Winner, Mr. H. Curtis (also winner of cue presented by Captain E. Nicholas) ; runner-up Mr. W. J. Brooke. Moffett Cup B grade Billiards— Winner Mr. A. Whelham; runner-up, Mr. A. D. Wilson. Your committee thank the members who have so generously supported the association during the past, year, and trust that similar assistance will be given to the incoming committee and that the good-fellowship which has been in evidence will continue. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year: Messrs R. T. Smith (president), A. Springford (vice-president), A. Hamilton (hon. sec.), 11. G. Thompson (hon. treasurer.), W. Fraser, W. S. Hobbs, E. H. Wood, P. Lindsay and A. D. Wilson (committee).
