ESCAPE OF PHOSGENE
THE HAMBURG EXPLOSION. INQUIRY INTO ORIGIN. London, May 24. The Times’ Berlin correspondent reports that experts decided that the remaining stocks of phosgene be destroyed by caustic soda and ammonia. The Minister of Economic Affairs at to-day’s Cabinet meeting stated that the gas was not intended for military purposes. A departmental expert had gone to Hamburg to conduct an inquiry into the actual origin of the gas.— Times Cables. NOT FOR MILITARY PURPOSE. (Rec. 9.5 p.m.) Berlin, May 25. Cabinet is satisfied that the phosgene manufactured at Hamburg was not intended for any military purpose. The remainder is being destroyed.—Australian Press Association.
