ENTOMBED MINERS
164 ACCOUNTED FOR. New York, May 23 A message from Mather states that the authorities have abandoned all hope of rescuing any more entombed miners alive. It is finally estimated that the number dead is 197. The bodies of 164 of these have now been Recovered, and 33 are still unaccounted for, but more bodies are being discovered hourly. Some of these are still limp and warm, and indicate that the victims lived many hours after being entombed.—Australian Press Association.
