PETROL TANK EXPLODES. THREE PERSONS KILLED. Berlin, May 23. A Farman passenger ’plane flying from Paris to Berlin was inexplicably forced down at Cologne and the tank exploded on alighting. The pilot, mechanic, and a woman passenger were killed.—Australian Press Association. LINDBERGH’S PROMINENCE. EFFECT OF NEW APPOINTMENT. New York, May 23. The importance of Colonel Lindbergh as the outstanding figure in American aviation was again demonstrated when, following the announcement that he had accepted a technical adviser’s position- with a transcontinental Air Transport Company all aeroplane and accessory stock jumped five to 16 points on the Stock Exchange. Lindbergh gave an interview making it clear that while he agreed to furnish advice to the new company which was engaged in a combination of rail and ’plane transport, he was not exclusively associated therewith and will continue his other air activities.— Australian Press Association.
