ALLEGED SLANDER

CASE AGAINST ADVERTISING AGENT. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 17. In the Supreme Court to-day the case is proceeding in which Joseph Maher is suing Johnson, an advertising agent, of Upper Hutt, for £l5OO for alleged slander. It is alleged that Johnson said: “I know where those heifers are. The milk has gone into some of Jim Maher’s cans and the earmarks of the heifers have been tampered with.” Mr Justice Ostler is on the Bench. Plaintiff, a farmer, said he met the defendant about two years ago and agreed to stock his swamp lands for him. It was the removal of some cattle from off this land which had given rise to the case.
