EASTERN DISTRICT MATCHES. (From Our Correspondent.) Eastern District matches were continued yesterday in cold showery weather. ALBION 11 v. WYNDHAM 5. Albion: —Tutty, Shanks, Christie, Davis, Holden, Wallis, Woods, Kirby, Simms, Bacon, Mclntyre, McMillan, McCorkindale, Hoffman, McGill. Wyndham:—Lindsay, Jones, O’Byrne, Townsend, Milne, Richardson, Dodds, Farrington, Rabbidge, Gibb, Martin, McCallum, Heath. This game was played at Gore, before a small attendance of the public. Wyndham were only able to muster 13 men, but Albion fielded a full side. The ground was in good order. The game was a very poor one, neither side playing good football, and the play generally was devoid of interest. Back play was spasmodic and the forwards were crude. The first spell was fairly even. Albion scored first, and converted, Wyndham equalizing just before half time. In the second half Albion scored twice, winning by 11-5. Mr D. Mulvey refereed. SECOND GRADE. Albion defaulted to Mataura. The Pioneer y. Pukerau match was postponed. THIRD GRADE. At Gore, Pioneer 111 drew with High School, 13 all. Mr C. Esplin refereed. MATAURA 27 v. PIONEER 3. The meeting of the first grade teams Mataura and Pioneer was looked forward to with keen interest and the game was played at the Mataura Recreation Grounds yesterday in dull and threatening weather. There was a good attendance of spectators many visitors journeying from Gore to the “City of the Falls” to witness the game. The ground was in good order and the rain kept off in the first spell, but during the second half it turned cold and wet. During the first spell the game was fairly even the score being 6-3 in favour of Mat aura. In the second half Mat aura had the best of the game and compiled another 21 points. The teams were as follows:—Mat aura (Blues) : A. Webb, R. Cullen, D. Clearwater, R. Amos, L. McPhee, J. Calder, R. Calder, G. McLeod, R. Richmond, N. McLeod, E. Ashby, L. Shrimpton, B. Scott, R. Marshall, J. Maley. Pioneer (Reds) : D. Cunningham, Flint, Davidson, Moffitt, Ottrey, V. Fitzgerald, M. Hoffman, McAra, Halliday, Forbes, Murtagh, Brown, Whitehead, Cunningham, F. Fitzgerald. Blues kicked off against a south-west wind and soon after a scrum the ball rebounded off a Pioneer player and was kicked over Blues line, J. Calder forcing. After a free kick to Blues Scott, McLeod and McPhee took operations to Reds twenty-five, a free to the latter relieving to near halfway. R. Calder secured from a scrum and passed to McPhee who returned to Calder and play went near to Reds line a forcedown resulting. After the kick out Flint with a god kick found the line in Blues twenty-five, aqd a passing bout by McAra, Fitzgerald and Davidson was stopped by Blues and after a penalty Davidson sent the leather out in Blues twenty-five. From a penalty to Blues, Maley’s kick did not gain anything and a rush by Reds was nicely stopped by R. Calder near Blues line. After a scrum and line-out a penalty was awarded to Blues and McLeod’s kick was returned. Eventually Webb removed the scene of operations to mid-field. For hanging on to the ball a penalty was awarded against Reds and Ottrey’s kick was returned by Calder. Webb kicked down the field and Moffitt fielded and sent well into Blues twenty-five but a penalty relieved for Blues. Maley intercepted a pass but did not get far and the ball went out between half-way and Reds twenty-five. From a scrum the ball went from Calder to McPhee to Scott and Shrimpton the latter scoring well out but McPhee failed with the kick. Blues 3, Reds 0.

Shrimpton broke away from a line-out but was brought down and after another throw-in Reds were penalized for picking out of the scrum. A penalty kick was awarded to Blues near half-way and Calder failed with a good attempt to goal. A rush by Blues ended in a free kick to Reds on their line which relieved the situation. Calder made an opening and gave to Amos, McLeod and Cullen the latter scoring but Shrimpton’s kick fell short. Blues 6, Reds 0. A free to Reds sent to Blues line, Clearwater mulled but eventually Blues relieved. Ottrey sent the ball up to near Blues line the latter mulling and V. Fitzgerald got over but his kick was a poster. Blues 6, Reds 3. Soon after resuming McPhee and Calder carried play to Reds line where a force resulted. After the kick out V. Fitzgerald shifted play to past half-way and a mark by Ottrey took operations to Blues line. From a scrum here Blues relieved to halfway and an exchange of free kicks finished in Reels forcing. Mulling by Reds full back enabled Blues to take operations to Reds twenty-five but V. Fitzgerald returned to centre. McPhee made an opening and passed to Shrimpton to Scott who scored. No goal. Blues 9, Reds 3. Amos broke away from mid-field and sent to Scott to Maley to Clearwater who was stopped and play remained in Reds twenty-five but soon after from a scrum Reds forced. Reds were being hard pressed but V. Fitzgerald marked and relieved slightly, and soon after a force resulted. V. Fitzgerald broke away but was brought down by Webb and play centred. Blues gradually worked to Reds line where N. McLeod secured and scored and Shrimpton goaled. Blues 14, Reds 3. Blues were soon back in Reds quarters, and V. Fitzgerald secured from a line-out and made a good run but was stopped by R. Calder. Blues again invaded Reds quarters and Cullen eventually scored at the corner. Webbs kick failed. Blues 17, Reds 3. Reds were kept busy defending until a free kick relieved but from an ensuing line-out McLeod got over and Shrimpton goaled. Blues 22, Reds 3. Reds took play to Blues twenty-five but McLeod returned and Cullen took operations to Reds twenty-five and Lance McPhee got over. Shrimpton goaled. Blues 27, Reds 3. Reds mads a run to Blues quarters but the latter’s defence was solid. Play ended son afterwards in Reds quarters. Mr J. Shanks refereed. CENTRAL DISTRICT SUB-UNION. The following is the amended junior draw, made necessary by the entry of Winton junior team to the second grade competition. May 12.—Waianiwa v. Dipton at Waianiwa. Referee Mr J. Cochrane. Limehills v. Ryal Bush at Limehills, Mr, G. Agnew; Winton a bye. May 19.—Dipton v. Limehills at Dipton, Mr A. Moylan; Ryal Bush v. Winton at Ryal Bush, Mr G. Agnew; Waianiwa a bye. May 26. —Dipton v. Ryal Bush at Dipton, Mr G. Agnew; Waianiwa v. Winton at Waianiwa, Mr D. McCurdy. Limehills a bye. June 22—Waianiwa v. Ryal Bush at Ryal Bush, Mr A. McLeod; Limehills v. Winton at Winton, Mr J.
