VAGRANT VERSE
IN SUNSHINE. (Written for the Southland Time*.) Here falls no rain And here no winds do blow, Here shadows fail Their mocking shapes to throw, Only the sun shines in, Gilding as he wills, Turning the white clover bed To a field of daffodils. Come sit we here Within this fiery dell Letting the sun ray Burnish us as well, Forgetting the winds that preaa Against us as we walk, Forgetting the rain that joins Unwanted in our talk. And yet why here, Where only sunlight fall*? Where not a word Unfriendly to us call*? This, my love, will be a desert Ere half a life is spun— Can there be loving or life With only the sun? —Shaun O’Sullivan. Invercargill, March 26, 1928.
